A water main break flooded parts of streets in Duluth's East Hillside neighborhood tonight.

The break poured water into the street at 118 Seventh Ave. E. for about an hour, beginning at about 6:15 p.m.

The water ran down the avenue to First Street and down Eighth Avenue onto Superior Street from Sir Benedict's Tavern to in front of the Fitger's building.

The Duluth Public Works Department didn't immediately know the cause of the break, but said frost typically causes breaks in winter.

"It's like a river," said Felicia Boclair, who lives in an apartment near the water flow's source. Boclair and a few other apartments were without running water tonight.

Outside the Fitger's Building, westbound cars had to maneuver through a few inches of water, while Duluth police blocked traffic on portions of other streets.
