Walk for Scleroderma June 5 on Park Point

A half mile walk in memory of Pam Jacksie will be held on Park Point, Saturday, June 5. Pledges are being sought by walk participants for the "Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma" event for scleroderma research.

A half mile walk in memory of Pam Jacksie will be held on Park Point, Saturday, June 5. Pledges are being sought by walk participants for the "Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma" event for scleroderma research.

Registration will begin at noon and the walk will start at 1 p.m. Food and entertainment will follow the walk, including face painting, Sassy the Clown and live music by the Gooneybirds. Pam Jacksie helped organize the scleroderma support group in Duluth in September 2002. She was known for her strength, courage and never-ending sense of humor. She passed away from the disease on March 31, 2003.

Scleroderma affects 300,000 Americans, 80 percent of whom are female. It is sometimes treatable, but not curable, and its cause is unknown.
