Viewcrest Health Center has opened its new "Central Park" atrium. Central Park was once an unusable outdoor courtyard, but has been transformed into a climate controlled indoor park.

A grand opening will be held Wednesday at Viewcrest, 3111 Church Place in Duluth from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The design, the first of its kind in the state of Minnesota, provides increased opportunities to socialize for residents and their friends and families. Before completion, the space was underutilized. The outdoor courtyard got too warm in the summer and filled with snow during the winter. The renovation boasts a huge skylight that fills the park with warm daylight. Lush landscaping, decorations and other features provide the ambiance to make it a "virtual outdoor setting."

Decor will be changed throughout the year to be appropriate for seasons and holidays. An old township style railway station, umbrella tables, trees, flowers, park benches, street lights, streams and ponds are all part of the atrium. A walking path allows for a stroll in the park. The park is also filled with decor designed to stimulate conversation and reminiscing with families and friends.
