The year started out like any other.

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon starting line was lined with spectators. Ice-covered ships were entering the canal. Pucks were gliding across the ice sheet at Amsoil Arena.

Then came the COVID-19 pandemic and distance learning and canceled sports and lost jobs.

Neighbors fed neighbors, strangers sewed masks for one another and people enjoyed the outdoors more.

There were rallies and marches for racial justice, multiple presidential candidate visits and the arrival of a much-anticipated vaccine.
