Authorities have identified a 23-year-old Gheen man who was killed when his vehicle crashed into a tree in Cook on Sunday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that Cedric C. Schuster was traveling west on Buboltz Road when he failed to navigate a sharp left turn on the dirt road and went into the ditch at a high rate of speed. His vehicle struck a tree head-on, and was extensively damaged. Schuster was was pronounced dead at the scene. First responders determined he had been trapped inside the vehicle with severe injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported to the Sheriff’s Office at about 11 a.m. Sunday, but the vehicle appeared to have been in the ditch for several hours prior to being located, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors.
