The Twin Ports Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic is slated to remain right where it is in Superior for the next several years.

Regulations require the clinic lease be put out for bid this year, and the request for proposals requires the clinic to be located within the city of Superior.

A lease for up to 20 years will be

considered.

"The VA listened to the veterans in the region and responded to their demands," said Sen. Bob Jauch,

D-Poplar. "Including the city of Superior location requirement in the contract provides the needed reassurance that veterans will have continued local access to outpatient services."

The clinic, which leases space at

St. Mary's Hospital in Superior, provides primary care to thousands of veterans from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Canada.

The clinic's 20-year lease with St. Mary's was due to end in August, with no renewal options.

"As a member of the City Council and now as a state representative, I have worked with veterans, other elected officials and St. Mary's Hospital to present a unified community endorsement of this important facility," said Rep. Nick Milroy, D-Superior. "The

clinic location has been well-liked, and the facility heavily used by veterans. We think this is the right place for that facility to be located, and we worked hard together to make it a reality," Milroy said.
