Duluth police are investigating a rash of vehicle vandalism in a downtown Duluth parking lot over the weekend.
More than a dozen vehicles had windows smashed and were rummaged through in a parking lot near Sixth Avenue West and First Street, downhill from the downtown Duluth fire station, late Saturday or early Sunday.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call 911.
To help prevent vehicle prowls, police suggest the following:
Never leave valuables in your vehicle, and keep the interior clean. Also be sure to not leave anything that may appear to be valuable, such boxes from electronics or bank envelopes. If you must leave valuables in the vehicle, place it in the trunk before you reach your destination.
Don't leave credit cards, IDs or personal information in your vehicle. Remove garage door openers and house or work keys.
Park in busy, well-lit areas. Avoid parking near anything that limits visibility, such as trash bins or large trucks.
Lock your doors and roll up your windows when you leave your vehicle.
Report any suspicious activity to police, and encourage your neighbors to do the same.
