The University of Wisconsin-Superior announced in an email to faculty and staff Wednesday that Molly Smith would no longer be serving in her position as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs.
UWS Chancellor Renee Wachter wrote in the email that Smith will remain on campus and work with her "over the coming months to see through several outstanding projects." Wachter also wrote that Jackie Weissenburger will replace Smith on an interim basis starting March 25. This is the second time in the past year that Weissenburger will serve in that role.
"I am confident that Jackie can help us maintain positive momentum on our current endeavors as we seek to serve students and as we enter this new biennium," Wachter wrote. "We will use the coming months to form a committee to search the position in the fall."
Weissenburger served as the interim provost from 2016 to 2018. Smith was announced as the new provost in April 2018 and replaced Weissenburger in June 2018.
Smith served as an English professor, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Saint Martin's University in Washington before coming to Superior.
