Area residents can learn more about global warming and steps to help solvethe problem during a daylong teach-in at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Jan. 31.
The free, public event in Rothwell Student Center includes speakers, discussions with local political and business leaders, and an Eco-Fair featuring local organizations and businesses. Free parking will be available in university lots 2 and 11.
"This is a day when people can learn about things they can do now to make a difference in helping our environment," Janice Crede, campus sustainability coordinator, said in a news release.
The event begins at 8 a.m. with an opening and American Indian healing ceremony. Other events scheduled include:
* 9 a.m. to noon: Information sessions about how global warming is affecting the region and what local residents can do to change that.

* 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Eco Fair featuring local organizations and businesses.
* 1-3 p.m.: Barry Hanson, author of "Energy Power Shift," talks about emerging technologies that can help solve environmental problems.
The event is part of the national Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America campaign. According to organizers, more than 1,000 universities and colleges nationwide are taking part in the national teach-in.
