A Grand Rapids man was sentenced to 90 days in jail Monday for his role in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident.
Michael Anthony Lane, Sr., 46, pleaded guilty to the crime of Taking Responsibility for Criminal Acts in Itasca County District Court Monday. The court suspended his jail time for one year as long as he remains law abiding and pays a $380 fine.
Lane and his son, Michael Anthony Lane Jr., were charged in June for the June 6th accident that killed pedestrian Joseph Dewayne Olson, 57, of Grand Rapids.
Lane Jr. pleaded guilty in December to criminal vehicular homicide. His sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday.
Olson was hit at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 169 and 13th Avenue N.E. in Grand Rapids shortly after midnight, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department. The vehicle that hit Olson then hit another vehicle and fled the scene. According to the criminal complaint, witnesses said the vehicle did not have its headlights illuminated.

Lane Sr. initially told police that he was driving the vehicle, but later said he had lied to protect his son.
The younger Lane is accused of driving with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.21 percent, more than double the legal limit to drive.
