UMD will induct 5 to Hall of Fame

Five former athletes have been selected for induction into the Minnesota Duluth Athletic Hall of Fame onOct. 10.

Chosen for the Class of 2008 are Chris Marinucci, Jodi Swenson Becker, Ron McClure, Chris Neumann and Darrell "Lefty" Warner.

Marinucci, from Grand Rapids, was the 1994 Western Collegiate Hockey Association player of the year and Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner as the top player in Division I. The right winger had 173 points in 151 career games with UMD.

Becker, from Crosby, Minn., is the only female NCAA Division II champion in UMD history. In 1990, she won the indoor high jump title and was second outdoors, and in 1991 was second outdoors. She holds the UMD women's indoor and outdoor high jump records.

McClure, from Golden Valley, Minn., is the only Bulldog to be an NCAA II All-American wrestler more than once (honored in 1993 and 1994). As a senior he was 27-1, placed second at 142 pounds in the Division II meet and finished 108-17 at UMD.

Neumann, from Milwaukee, starred from 1980-84, started in a then-school record 115 straight games and helped UMD post a 93-22 basketball record in four years. As a senior forward, he scored 499 points and was named Northern Intercollegiate Conference. He finished with 1,708 points.

Warner, from Grand Rapids, was a football halfback, quarterback and safety from 1953-56. He led the Bulldogs in total offense and scoring for four years and set school career records in both categories. He was All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference three times.

UMD's Athletic Hall of Fame now has 88 members.
