A $15 million building addition for the University of Minnesota Duluth civil engineering program is among the projects state lawmakers will be asked to borrow money for.
The University of Minnesota Board of Regents Friday approved a $238.9 million bonding request for 2008. The university system proposes to match the state bonding with $69.4 million.
The regents are asking for $10 million in state bonding for a 34,000 square foot addition to Voss-Kovatch Hall. The addition would provide class and laboratory space for a proposed bachelor's degree in civil engineering. The system would provide $5 million of the project's costs.
Other projects include the renovation of a gateway center on the Morris campus; a new science teaching and student services building, a new facility for the Bell Museum of Natural History and renovation of historic Folwell Hall, all in the Twin Cities.
The largest single request if for $100 million in Higher Education Asset Preservation and Replacement funds to address safety and maintenance issues for the system's more than 800 buildings and 28 million square feet of building space.
