A new vice chancellor has been hired at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Randy Hyman, who will take the position July 1, replaces Bruce Gildseth as vice chancellor for academic support and student life.

Hyman most recently served as associate dean for student affairs and director of the graduate program for student affairs administration in higher education at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He received a doctoral degree in higher education administration from the University of Flor-ida, Gainsville.

Gildseth, past winner of the Minnesota Council for Quality's Minnesota Gold Award, is retiring after 30 years in the position. He will continue his work on the UMD Campus Retention Initiative in the chancellor's office for a year.
