UCare announced today that its community benefit program has awarded $100,000 to the Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Community Health Board to support health programs for women, children, and seniors.
UCare is an independent nonprofit and one of the largest health plans in Minnesota.
The money will help:
* Expand dental hygiene services at Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinics, and dental access for pediatric and developmentally disabled clients covered by Medical Assistance.
* Provide incentives for participants in the Superior Babies program, a joint venture between public health nurses and chemical health workers who visit and support pregnant women to prevent Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Effect.

* Expand Follow Along, an early childhood intervention program that helps parents know if their child's physical, cognitive and social development is on track.
* Sponsor senior health fairs and clinics.
* Update a directory of local medical and community resources.
* Support a MOVE camp that teaches at-risk children about health behaviors.
"We are very pleased to help the Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Community Health Board expand and enhance vital community health initiatives for families and seniors," UCare President and CEO Nancy Feldman said in a news release.
The Minneapolis-based, nonprofit UCare provides health care and administrative services to more than 130,000 members in Minnesota.
