U of M sets taconite health meetings

The University of Minnesota taconite workers health study research team will hold informational meetings May 11 in Hibbing and Virginia for taconite workers.

The public meetings will address how participating in the survey will benefit past and future miners.

The first meeting is at

5 p.m. at the Hibbing Memorial Building; the second is at 7 p.m. at Virginia's Coates Plaza Hotel.

The University of Minnesota is conducting a several-year study to understand why taconite miners have a high incidence of lung disease, including the deadly cancer mesothelioma.
