Authorities were searching the waters of Lake Superior offshore from Marquette, Mich., on Wednesday for two people who reportedly were swept into the lake by massive waves on Tuesday.
The two people were a man and woman from Iron River, Mich., who were swept off the rocky shoreline of Marquette's Presque Isle Park, the Marquette Mining Journal reported.
The National Weather Service in Marquette reported that wind gusts exceeded 60 mph in the region on Tuesday, kicking up waves of 25 to 30 feet along the Lake Superior shore.
Local emergency crews were searching the waters off Presque Isle Park on Wednesday, Marquette TV station WLUC reported, while the U.S. Coast Guard had suspended its search pending new information.
The park, a popular recreation spot in the Upper Peninsula city, remained closed Wednesday because of damage caused by the storm, city officials reported.
