Two killed in dirt bike collision near Floodwood

Two men were killed late Saturday night when they collided while riding dirt bikes in far southwestern St. Louis County.

According to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, rescue crews were called to the accident near 12967 Graff Road in Prairie Lake Township about 11:30 p.m.

Kevin Allen McElwee, 28, of Cedar, Minn., was on a dirt bike traveling west on Graff Road when he collided with an eastbound dirt bike driven by Jonathan Nickolas Clough, 20, of Mora, Minn. Both drivers were killed.

The accident occurred near the point where St. Louis, Carlton and Aitkin counties meet, west of State Highway 73 about 12 miles southwest of Floodwood.

The crash remains under investigation. In addition to the sheriff's office, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Floodwood Police Department, Wright Fire Department and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene.
