Two people were injured in a garage fire in Duluth’s Congdon Park neighborhood on Saturday morning, according to a news release from the Duluth Fire Department.
Two residents of 432 Rustwood Lane evacuated the home, but one had gone back to retrieve the other, who was trying to put out the fire in an attached garage. Both suffered smoke inhalation, and one had burned hair and possible other burns, the fire department said. They were treated on the scene and transported to Essentia by ambulance.
When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the garage and eaves, threatening the rest of the home. They forced entry into the garage to extinguish the fire. Two cars were damaged, and the home was damaged by smoke. The initial estimate for damage to the structure and contents was $150,000. The cause of the fire was undetermined Saturday.
In its news release, the Duluth Fire Department reminded people to immediately vacate a home in case of fire, and to practice exit drills before a fire occurs.
