From chain-saw carvings to plaques and wooden nickels, people offered their ideas for ways to memorialize the trunk of the Honking Tree at a public input meeting Tuesday night.
A couple dozen people gathered at the Community Center in Two Harbors for Mayor Randy Bolen's task force meeting, dedicated to learning how the community would like to preserve what's left of the tree that had become a Highway 61 icon.
The tree was cut down by unknown persons on April 30.
Bolen said he will continue to accept ideas through Memorial Day, and then will meet with representatives of other governmental units in the area to choose a final memorial plan.
Submissions can be sent to Bolen at rkbolenjr@mchsi.com , or mailed to Bolen at Two Harbors City Hall, 522 First Ave., Two Harbors, MN 55616.
