Two Duluth men are up for consideration to become members of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.

William Burns and David McMillan, as residents of the 8th Congressional District, are among the 12 candidates recommended by the Regent Candidate Advisory Council to a Joint Legislative Committee for final consideration. That committee chooses one candidate for each position to be presented to the full Legislature.

Burns is a lawyer with the Hanft Fride firm in Duluth and McMillan is senior vice president of marketing, regulatory and public affairs for Allete and executive vice president of Minnesota Power in Duluth.

There are four open seats, including one at-large seat and one each in the 2nd, 3rd and 8th Congressional Districts.

Also recommended for the 8th Congressional District are Robert Kennedy of Baxter and Robert Ostlund of Walker.
