Two Duluth men were injured, one critically, in a snowmobile crash Friday night on Pequaywan Lake about 30 miles northeast of Duluth.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that Chase Dedominces, 20, was operating a snowmobile on the lake at a high rate of speed with a passenger, 19-year-old Travis Wigstrom. Just after 9:30 p.m., the snowmbile struck the island near the center of the lake and both men were ejected from the machine.
Both men were transported by Life Link III air ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Dedominces suffered life-threatening head injuries and was listed in critical condition, the Sheriff's Office reported. Wigstrom also suffered head injures and was listed in stable condition. Both men are expected to survive their injuries, the Sheriff's Office reported Saturday morning.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors to the crash, the Sheriff's Office reported.
Other agencies who responded to the crash included the Pequaywan Lake Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Gold Cross Ambulance.
