The Twin Ports man who fled from federal authorities Friday was captured Saturday morning after evading law enforcement for almost 24 hours.
Shawn Michael Olthoff, 26, was arrested without incident about 8:15 a.m. in a rural Pine City, Minn., residence, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Tom Volk. Olthoff, who has recent addresses in Duluth and Superior, led U.S. marshals on a high-speed car chase Friday morning before crashing his vehicle into a cornfield about 8 miles northwest of North Branch, Minn., about 9 a.m.
Olthoff fled the vehicle and managed to escape through the cornfield.
Volk said deputy U.S. marshals, a Pine County K-9 unit and Minnesota State Patrol troopers found Olthoff at a manufactured home after following "leads and tips." Because Olthoff was wanted on a federal probation violation, he was taken to Ramsey County Jail in St. Paul to await a hearing in federal court on Monday.
Olthoff had been sought on a federal probation warrant stemming from a firearms-related conviction in 2004.
