The Tweed Museum of Art on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus will be closed through April as the building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is upgraded.
"This upgrade is crucial to maintain a stable environment for the collection," museum officials said in a news release announcing the temporary closure. The museum's current building opened in 1958, and the HVAC upgrade is "just the first phase of an exciting renovation project to usher the museum into 21st century accommodations."
Artwork will be temporarily relocated while the work is underway, with a planned reopening in May.
"The museum staff will be working on storing art pieces and planning events for the reopening in May 2016," the news release said. During the closure "we will be expanding our virtual museum offerings online as we continue to digitize the collection and offer a weekly in-depth piece by docent Bill Shipley at our website."
The museum's website is d.umn.edu/tma ; it also can be found on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram , and updates will be posted online during the renovation work.
