Storms that tore across northern St. Louis County on Tuesday knocked out power to more than 2,000 customers and dropped hail as large as quarters.
The severe storms toppled trees and dropped branches from the Cook area eastward toward Lake Vermilion, Tower, Ely and Babbitt. Lake Country Power reported that at their peak, outages affected 2,500 customers. Power was restored to all customers on Wednesday, the utility reported.
The National Weather Service received reports of quarter-sized hail near Cook, and dime-sized hail near Tower and Ely as the storms moved through late in the afternoon.
