Kerry Lieder, property and risk manager for Duluth public schools, inspects on Wednesday the trunk of a tree that was cut down at Public Schools Stadium. Five pine trees were vandalized inside Public SchoolsStadium in Duluth late Sunday night or early Monday morning, Lieder said. Administrators suspect the trees, which were planted with donations in 2001 to enhance the beauty of the stadium, were cut down by people trying to get a better view to watch games free outside the stadium. The trees were probably cut down with a handsaw, Leider said, and are lying on the side of the hill on the Fifth Street side of the stadium. The incident was reported to the police, but there are no suspects. The district plans to replant the trees after completing a damage estimate.
