The city of Superior is making changes to Hammond Avenue to reduce the congestion of traffic coming off the Blatnik Bridge.

The city announced Tuesday that it will restripe Hammond Avenue for southbound traffic between the Blatnik Bridge approach and Winter Street.

The restriping work was set to be completed prior to this morning's commute.

Traffic on Hammond coming from the Blatnik Bridge previously transitioned from two lanes of traffic to one lane of through-traffic, and one lane for parking and right turns.

The restriped street will have one dedicated through-traffic lane and a second lane for through-traffic and right turns.

Hammond Avenue southbound between Winter and Belknap streets will not be changed. There also will be no changes for northbound traffic on Hammond Avenue.

Hammond Avenue and the Blatnik Bridge have seen more traffic than usual this summer because the Superior-bound lanes of the Bong Bridge are closed for construction.
