The Duluth Police Department is urging drivers to avoid several blocks of West Superior Street on Saturday morning during the Wild Santa Run 5K.

The Wild Santa Run 5K will start at 10 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of West Superior Street. Runners will head west on Superior Street to a turnaround near 27th Avenue West and then run east on the Cross City Trail to the M&H parking lot, where they will turn around and return to the start/finish area using the same route.

During the event, Superior Street between 24th and 27th avenues west and 22nd, 23rd, and 24th avenues west between Superior Street and Michigan Street, will close to traffic from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m., the police department said.

Police recommend drivers use First Street as a detour around the closures. To avoid congestion and delays, drivers should also avoid Michigan Street between 21st and 27th avenues west, except to access businesses along Michigan Street.

Michigan Street will remain open to local traffic only, but drivers will encounter traffic delays at 22nd Avenue West, while runners cross the street.

Parking is prohibited on Superior Street between 24th and 27th Avenues West starting at 7 a.m. Saturday. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to ticketing and towing.
