St. Louis County is preparing to roll out four new trucks to combat icy winter roads in the coming weeks. The trucks both pre-treat roads with a brine solution and apply salt during and after snow and ice events. The trucks came in at $300,000 each and figure to make better results for plowing and cut down on the amount of salt used. St. Louis County photo

The speed limit has been increased on eastbound Highway 210 near the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport in Brainerd. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, where road quality allows, speed limits will be increased from 55 mph to 60 on state two-lane highways. Steve Kohls / Forum News Service

The Duluth Transit Authority parked its fleet of seven electric buses in late November to address issues with hill braking and heat. The buses were introduced in October, and were purchased via federal grant as a way of testing electric technology in Duluth's cold weather and hilly streets. file / News Tribune
