Outlook: The Greyhounds needed a shootout for the second consecutive year to advance to the state tournament, defeating Coon Rapids 3-1 in penalty kicks in the Section 7AA final last week. Eventual runner-up Eden Prairie defeated East 7-0 in the state quarterfinals a year ago. Senior Megan Stingle (17 goals, 3 assists, 20 points) leads in scoring, while junior Sarah Hockett and senior Abby Sertich each have six goals. Senior Jackie Reinemann (13-5, 17 goals allowed, 78 saves) has five shutouts. ... Lakeville South defeated Rochester Century 3-0 in the Section 1AA final to reach the state tournament for the third year in a row. The Cougars are led by the high-scoring duo of seniors Krista Lundgren (22-14-36) and Kelsey Bertamus (25-17-42). Lundgren has 59 career goals. Bertamus will play at Northwestern. The Lake Conference champions led the state in goal-differential at plus-62. "They're rumored to have the fastest girl in the state [Lundgren] and they have another good scorer as well," East coach Shawn Roed said. "We've been used to this all year -- we've played against a lot of good teams with a lot of good players -- so we're going to have to be ready to face the challenge."

Outlook: The Lumberjacks return to the state tournament for the second year in a row and fifth time overall. Last season they lost 6-0 in the quarterfinals to two-time defending champion Mahtomedi, which went on to win another title. Cloquet topped Two Harbors 1-0 on a first-half goal by senior Jessica Baublitz in last week's Section 7A final. Junior Sarah Johnson (5-11-16), sophomore Emily Johnson (7-4-11), Baublitz (6-5-11) and junior Hannah Roy (6-4-10) are the team's leading scorers. Freshmen goalkeepers Kaitrin Rathe (5-0-2, 72 saves) and Mary Keller (7-3-2, 67 saves) haven't allowed a goal since Oct. 2, a span of five-straight games and 426 minutes. "We know we're facing a very tough, talented team," coach Kyle Naalsund said. "We want to go down and compete more than we did last year." ... The Red Knights edged Orono 1-0 in overtime of the Section 6A final, sending them to their third-consecutive state tournament and fourth overall. The Red Knights were state runners-up in 2005 and '06. Freshman Jordyn Burns (20-4-24) and senior Colleen Raune (11-9-20) are the top goal-scorers while sophomore Laura Kosch has a team-high 14 assists.
