Bulldogs Outlook

Nielson called this the toughest test of UMD's season so far. The Bulldogs are coming off a 43-21 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in a game televised by CBS College Sports Network. Senior quarterback Ted Schlafke tossed four touchdown passes on just 15 attempts. UMD has thrown for more yards than the opposition (671 to 590) on nearly half the attempts (63 to 120). The UMD defense is holding teams to 1.1 yards per rush.

Vikings Outlook

Augustana compiled 601 yards of offense in a 59-0 rout of Minnesota-Crookston last week. The Augustana defense is led by captain Matt Lien, a 2004 Duluth Denfeld graduate. Lien, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound safety, was third on the team in tackles last season and is second this year. "I remember Matt from when we tried to recruit him here, and he's certainly become every bit as good of a college football player as we expected," Nielson said.
