Tips on feeding hummingbirds
Here are some tips from Duluth birder Laura Erickson about feeding
hummingbirds:
-- Make the ratio of sugar to water about 1:4. It can be stronger (1:3) during cold, wet weather, and should be weaker (down to about 1:5) during hot, dry weather when dehydration is an issue.
-- Don't use food coloring. It's been proven to be unhealthy, and it doesn't help attract hummingbirds. They learn what feeders look like, and the red parts on feeders are what bring them in.
