Three Duluth beaches added to pollution agency's advisory list

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency today added three Duluth beaches to the list of those where people are advised to avoid contact with the water.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency today added three Duluth beaches to the list of those where people are advised to avoid contact with the water.

Water samples collected Thursday at Southworth Marsh, Brighton and Lakewalk beaches found elevated E. coli bacteria levels, indicating the possible presence of fecal contamination. In addition, the existing advisory against water contract at the Duluth Boat Club Beach remains in affect.

Southworth Marsh Beach is located on the harbor side of Park Point near 40th Street. Brighton Beach is located in Gitche Gummi Park. Lakewalk Beach is located below Lake Place Park in Canal Park. And the boat club beach is located on the harbor side of Park Point in Duluth at 14th Street. All four are scheduled to be sampled again Monday.

Anyone who becomes ill after contacting beach water is asked to contact Amy Westbrook at the Minnesota Department of Health Duluth office at723-4907.
