Thirsty Pagan strikes at the heart of your olfactory glands, pumping glorious scents of baking cheese into your nose from its open-air kitchen. Its pies are about as close to deep-dish as local pizza-makers get, and one slice is probably enough for those with small appetites. The pizza, served pan-style, had a spicy, saucy sauce. A fork is in order. The Italian sausage, salty pepperoni, green peppers and black olives were tasty and well-balanced, but the buttery crust was the real winner. The kind of crust you steal off your children's plates if they don't eat it. But we suggest they do.
Thirsty Pagan, which doesn't allow smoking until 10 p.m., is about the most laid-back, funky bar in Superior. Great music, too, both on the speakers and live. And of course, they make their own, very popular beer.
