A flurry of burglaries was reported in the Twin Ports early Tuesday morning, and Superior Police Sgt. Dan Hawkin said authorities are looking to see whether crimes on either side of the bridge may be somehow related.
Three 14-year-old boys are being held at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center for their alleged roles in burglarizing three garages and prowling five vehicles in Duluth early Tuesday, police said.
Meanwhile, the Superior Police Department is investigating a large number of garage burglaries that took place about the same time in the area of North 26th Street and Ogden, John and Hughitt avenues.
About 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, Superior Police responded to a residential burglary alarm in the area of North 26th Street and Hughitt Avenue. A resident reported that someone had broken into the garage and taken CDs, a pocket knife and an old cell phone.
Squads began checking the area and came across about 25 more garages that had been forcefully entered. Officers found evidence that the intruders had rummaged through both the garages and vehicles, taking items including loose change, CDs, a laptop computer and a flat-screen TV. Many of the garages were spray-painted in spots, as were some of the vehicles. None of the spray-painting was any sort of graffiti, police said.
