Tanker truck fire extinguished near Cotton

Several St. Louis County fire departments battled a semitrailer tanker fire Monday afternoon near Cotton on U.S. Highway 53. The fire was reported around 1 p.m. in the northbound lane of the highway, north of Three Lakes Road, according to a report from Northland Firewire. The lane was closed for over an hour.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the rear wheels of the tanker and, reportedly, no product appeared to be spilled. The truck is owned by Edwards Oil of Virginia.

There were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire departments which responded to the scene included Cotton, Ellsburg, Northland, Alborn and the Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth.
