Sometimes, babysitting jobs can go really late into the night. I don't really care but I'm human, I get tired too. Some parents say it's OK for me to sleep while they're out but I always find it awkward when they come home and find that I'm asleep. I'm usually pretty good at sitting or at least waking up, when the parents walk in the door. I must go on parents-could-come-home-at-any-time mode.
When I was babysitting for my neighbors, their youngest child, Juliana, had asked me to stay in her room while she fell asleep. I lay down on the floor next to her bed and thought I could briefly shut my eyes. I didn't realize how wrong I would be.
When the kids' parents came home, they found me asleep in Juliana's room on the floor. Her mom tried to wake me and when I finally rose, I asked, "Where am I?" I'm not a usual sleep walker and somehow I managed to get lucky and sleep walk while babysitting.
After I asked that question in confusion, I fell back asleep. A few minutes later, I heard noises from the parents and woke up, still a little dazed. The mom told me of my sleep walk and I was still a little tired to truly laugh at myself.
Fortunately, that incident happened with people that just laughed at it instead of getting angry. They still tease me about it from time to time and I can laugh at it too now. OK, I'm not a perfect babysitter and I have been caught sleeping on the job.
