A Duluth man accused of shooting a Cloquet man to death during an East Hillside fight last summer appeared in St. Louis County District Court on Monday.
Luis Mark Hogan, 26, is charged with intentional second-degree murder in the June 30 death of Adam Michael Sheda, 26. Staff Sgt. Sheda had returned about a week earlier from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Monday's hearing was held for the court to set up a schedule as the case proceeds to a potential trial.
St. Louis County prosecutor Gary Bjorklund told 6th Judicial District Judge Mark Munger that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's crime lab still needed one to two months for ballistic testing and two to three months for DNA analysis of blood recovered from the crime scene.
Public defender Steven Coz told the court he is concerned by the amount of time it has taken police to furnish the defense its evidence and that his client has the right to a speedy trial, but he wanted to be able to analyze the evidence before future hearings are scheduled.

Munger scheduled another hearing for March 31. The defendant continues to be held on $300,000 bail.
