A 45-year-old man is being held in St. Louis County Jail in connection with the robbery at knifepoint of a West Duluth hair salon Saturday morning.

About 10 a.m., a man walked into Cost Cutters, 215 N. Central Ave., displaying a knife, Duluth Police Sgt. Jim Lesar said.

"He took all the money from the cash register and left and was apprehended an hour later without incident," Lesar said. The suspect was later identified as the man who had robbed the salon, he said.

Before the robbery, police had encountered the suspect, who apparently is homeless, camping out in Chambers Grove in the Fond du Lac neighborhood, Lesar said. The man then left the area by car, allegedly later turning up at the Cost Cutters in West Duluth.

The suspect probably faces armed robbery charges.
