Superior police have arrested a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Friday night at the corner of Broadway Street and Hughitt Avenue on the city's north side.
The victim was identified as Eugene David Renko, 61, of Superior.
Renko was struck at about 9:30 p.m., and the driver of the large four-door sedan that hit him did not stop.
Superior police investigators located the vehicle in Rice Lake Township outside Duluth early Sunday morning. A search of court records for Wisconsin and Minnesota found several convictions against the suspect for Wisconsin cases filed between 1996 and 2001, including two for OWI; two for operating without a valid driver's license; and one each for operating after revocation, improper use of registration, unregistered vehicle, driving on the wrong side of a highway, disorderly conduct, damage to property, felony bail jumping, escape risk, and criminal bail.
