A man surfing off Park Point rescued a woman caught in a rip current on Wednesday evening, Duluth fire officials said.

According to Duluth Fire Department Assistant Chief Erik Simonson, the incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. near the Tot Lot at 12th Street. The woman was being pulled out from shore by the rip current when the surfer was able to intercept her.

"He was able to scoop her up and bring her into shore," Simonson said.

The woman did not require medical attention and was not transported to a hospital.

"She was tired out, but fine," Simonson said.

Park Point beaches were under "condition red flag" warnings on Wednesday for a high risk of rip currents because of strong northeast winds and high waves, and officials had warned people to stay out of the water. Simonson urged people to heed the warnings.

Bystanders rescued three people from a rip current off Park Point on Monday in the same general area as Wednesday's incident.
