The Dubuque, Iowa-based telemarketing company WS-Live is closing its Superior call center for good March 3 and eliminating 66 positions.

The company is centralizing operations at its Iowa locations, according to Kim Houine, spokeswoman for WS-Live. Employees were informed of the building's closing Dec. 5, according to the company.

"By centralizing, we will be able to operate more cost-effectively," Houine said, blaming the closure on the recession.

This wasn't the first major reduction for the telemarketer.

In 2001 the company, then called Advance Data Comm, announced plans to lay off 60 workers at its Superior call center.

The firm's remaining call centers are in Dubuque and Oelwein, Iowa. At one time the company also had satellite offices in Ashland and Fond du Lac.

At its peak the Superior office, at 1230 Tower Ave., employed 340 people.
