Superior police have arrested a 17-year-old Superior boy accused of stabbing his cousin multiple times with a small knife after the man refused to give him money.

According to the Superior Police Department, the suspect; a friend; and the victim, Joseph Bennett, were in a car being driven by Bennett's wife on Tower Avenue early Monday. Bennett told authorities that the suspect demanded all of his money. Bennett said that after he refused to turn over his money, the suspect assaulted him, stabbing him multiple times with a small knife. When Bennett's wife stopped the vehicle, the suspect and his friend fled.

Bennett was treated and released from a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The case has been referred to the Douglas County District Attorney's Office. The News Tribune does not typically name suspects before formal charges are filed.

It does not appear that the suspect's friend was involved in the assault, authorities said.
