The Duluth Transit Authority has begun rerouting westbound buses traveling to and from the Duluth Transportation Center, and a part of Superior Street is closed to traffic.

Drivers heading east into downtown from Interstate 35 or West Superior Street will be detoured to Michigan Street or up Mesaba Avenue to Second Street, according to the city. To view a detour map, visit superiorstreet.org/parking-skywalk.

DTA buses will not provide service on Superior Street between Mesaba Avenue and Third Avenue West during the construction. Passengers should board westbound buses on First Street and eastbound buses on Second Street. However, the Duluth Transportation Center may be the most convenient location for some passengers during the detour. For details on the bus route changes, visit duluthtransit.com.

Originally slated to begin on Monday, the Superior Street reconstruction project will now begin on Wednesday after snow is cleared from the work site. The reconstruction of the street will take three years to complete and is expected to cost about $31.5 million. The first phase, taking place this year, will tackle the segment between Seventh Avenue West and Third Avenue West.
