Superior police said they found a man dead early today of an apparently self-inflicted gun shot after he drove his vehicle into a number of parked cars.
The man, whose name was not released, was discovered dead at about 1:40 a.m. after police shot pepper spray into his trailer home and forced their way inside. Police believe he had been dead about two hours. He had fled to his trailer after colliding with the parked cars in the 2600 block of East Seventh Street.
The incident began about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when officers were alerted to a series of hit-and-run traffic incidents. A witness followed the driver to Nemadji Trailer Court, 3132 E. Fifth St.
When officers arrived, they saw the suspect enter his trailer and then heard a gun shot. Police tried to communicate by phone with the suspect and ordered residents out of nearby trailers. At about 1:40 a.m., they forced their way inside.
Police continue to investigate the incident. They have not released the dead man's name because they have not yet contacted his relatives.
