The investigation of a reported abduction attempt on Monday in Superior has been closed, Superior police said.
Police had responded to the report at 4:36 p.m. that a man had attempted to abduct a 9-year-old girl near Great Lakes Elementary School. Police responded to the area and after a thorough search were unable to find anyone resembling the man’s description.
In subsequent days “it became evident that the information given at the time was inaccurate,” Superior police Capt. Thomas Champaigne said in a news release.
The reported victim’s version of events changed several times during interviews, he said.
Police are no longer following up on the incident, Champaigne said.
