A Superior man was in critical condition in a Florida hospital Wednesday after being shot in the head in an alleged dispute over stolen marijuana, authorities reported.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office reported that Patrick Nelson, 27, also suffered a broken neck and other broken bones in the incident Tuesday night on Hutchinson Island, about 100 miles north of Miami.

Two suspects -- 25-year-old Ryan Lounders and 27-year-old Donald Smith -- were arrested and face charges of attempted felony murder, battery and burglary.

Sheriff's officials said Nelson was visiting the area and was observed Tuesday night entering an unoccupied mobile home about a mile from where he was staying; he left before the residents, Lounders and Smith, returned, a witness reported.

After his arrest, Lounders told investigators that when he returned home, he noticed about $1,000 worth of marijuana missing. Lounders and Smith allegedly drove to where Nelson was staying, entered with a handgun and confronted him about the stolen marijuana. The men struggled, Nelson was shot in the head, and Lounders and Smith fled the scene.
