A Superior man involved in a stabbing at a city bar will spend four years on probation and 112 days in jail.
Joshua T. Fuerstenau, 41, pleaded no contest to one felony count of substantial battery and one misdemeanor count of bail-jumping last week in Douglas County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to four years of probation and 112 days in jail for the bail-jumping charge. He also was ordered to pay $1,200 restitution, fines and costs of $150, undergo a chemical dependency evaluation, have no contact with the victim and not use or possess alcohol.
A deferred judgment of conviction agreement was entered for the battery charge. If Fuerstenau stays out of trouble with the law, remains sober and alcohol-free and cooperates with his halfway house residence rules and the terms of his probation for three years, the count would be amended to a misdemeanor with no additional penalty.
Fuerstenau got into a verbal altercation with a female bartender close to closing time at a Superior bar on July 15, according to the criminal complaint. A man stepped in to defend the bartender in the parking lot, and Fuerstenau stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife. Immediate surgery was needed to repair the man's abdomen.
