A Superior man accused of burning a child with a lighter will spend 18 months on probation and 10 days in jail.
Robert Charles Duhaime, 26, pleaded no contest in Douglas County Circuit Court last week to misdemeanor counts of battery and intimidation of a victim, both domestic abuse charges. One felony count of physical abuse of a child by intentionally causing bodily harm was dismissed.
Duhaime was granted Huber work release for the jail time. Other conditions of probation include undergoing domestic and chemical dependency evaluations and following recommendations, and paying a $416 fine.
The charges stemmed from an April incident at Duhaime's home where he pulled a woman's hair and prevented her from calling 911 by unplugging her phone. At the time, she spoke with Superior police officers about a burn on her son's shoulder that she felt was caused by Duhaime.
Judge Kelly Thimm imposed and stayed a 90-day jail sentence that Duhaime will follow automatically if he fails to follow the terms of his probation.
