A Superior man appeared in Douglas County Circuit Court on Wednesday accused of providing alcohol to a 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her.

Timothy Robert Lucius, 51, is charged with sexual assault of a child younger than 16, contributing to the delinquency of a child and exposing genitals. The incident allegedly took place July 26.

According to the criminal complaint:

Lucius admitted to one Douglas County sheriff's deputy that he had given alcohol to the girl, but he denied sexually assaulting her.

In a written statement, the girl said that Lucius poured pineapple rum into a plastic water bottle and gave it to her. He kept encouraging her to drink more, the girl said. After drinking about 1½ water bottles filled with the rum she said she felt drunk. She was unclear about some of the details, but remembers being on the ground with the defendant sexually assaulting her.

Douglas County Court Commissioner Paul Baxter set Lucius' bail at $10,000 cash. The defendant was ordered to not possess or use alcohol, have no contact with the alleged victim and her family, and to have no unsupervised contact with minors.

Lucius' next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 8.
