A Superior man accused of hitting, head-butting and biting a 15-year-old girl faces arraignment after appearing Wednesday in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Don Patrick Popoe, 19, faces one count of felony physical abuse of a child and one count of misdemeanor bail-jumping.

According to the criminal complaint, Popoe and the teen were drinking with friends Aug. 19 at Wisconsin Point. The two went to Popoe's house. The girl was texting other guys, which upset Popoe. When he tried to get the phone from her, she threw it under the bed and Popoe got angry. He pushed the teen down on the bed and backhanded her across the right side of her face, causing her nose to bleed. As she struggled to get Popoe off her, he head-butted her, bit her cheek and finger and choked her.

When questioned by police, Popoe said he didn't remember much about it because he had a lot to drink.

At the time of the incident, Popoe was out on a signature bond for a criminal traffic case accusing him of operating while revoked. One of the conditions of the signature bond was that he not commit any new crimes.
